Millions of Muslims throughout the globe gather in Mecca to perform hajj, each year in the twelfth month of Islamic calendar, called Dhul-Hijjah.

Performing Hajj is a once in a life time obligatory act for those Muslims (male or female) who have financial and physical means. WHAT IS UMRAH ?

Umrah is a beautiful spiritual journey taken by every single Muslim to acknowledge Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala – Glory to him, the exalted)
Any pilgrim who proceeds on this journey, goes along the path to purifying their soul, heart mind and body from the sins committed in the past to be distinguished from others on Resurrection day.

Essentially, the Umrah means ‘a visit’ to the Holy Kaaba (the Sacred House of God) in Arabic and can be performed by anyone, anytime of the year; unlike Hajj, which is an obligatory pilgrimage to Makkah, performed every year within the first 10 days of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah.

These are the essential steps of Umrah:

• Enter into Ihram (state of purity and devotion) by washing your body and donning Ihram garments.

• Recite the Talbiyah in the miqat station to declare intention to make the pilgrimage.

• Travel to Makkah.

• Enter Al Masjid Al Haram (Holy Mosque) and perform Tawaf – circling the Kaaba seven times in a counterclockwise direction.

• Perform Sa’ay – walking 7 times between the hills of Safa and Marwah beside the Kaaba.

• At the end of Umrah, men exit from Ihram by shaving their head (taqseer). Completing Umrah for women requires cutting off a short lock of hair.

May Allah invite us all to perform Hajj and Umrah..

Aameen..
